Doing business in Kosovo
Kosovo is built to welcome international business. Here are the main advantages and practical tips.
The advantages
- Low, simple tax: corporate income tax is a flat 10%.
- The euro: pay, invoice and budget in euros.
- Open to foreign investors: Kosovo's laws do not discriminate against foreign investors, and there is no investment screening mechanism.
- A dedicated agency: KIESA, the Kosovo Investment and Enterprise Support Agency, helps investors with information and introductions to institutions.
- Easy to reach: same time zone as most of Europe, and visa-free Schengen travel for Kosovo passport holders since 2024.
- EU trade framework: an EU Stabilisation and Association Agreement since 2016, and CEFTA membership.
- Commercial Court: a specialised court set up in 2022 to handle business disputes faster.
Practical tips
- Start with a pilot. Begin with a small team or project and grow once it works.
- Use local professionals early. A local lawyer and accountant make setup and payroll smoother.
- Talk to KIESA. The investment agency can answer questions and open doors.
- Plan in euros. Budget, payroll and invoices are all in one currency.
- Visit Pristina. Meet teams and partners in person. It is a short trip from many European cities.
